The Whistle

Steamboats can´t be imagined without a steam whistle. On the river Elbe they were first invented by the "Allgemeine Strom-Polizeiordnung für die Schiffahrt und Flößerei auf der Elbe" of january, 8 1894, a law which ordered that every steamboat should have a steam whistle for signaling. The steam whistle replaced the bell signal, which was regarded as non sufficient anymore because of the increasing travel on the river.

The photo shows the whistle of the PD Pirna.
